Subclass 190 WA nomination | What you need to know

Subclass 190 WA nomination is the second stage process for applying for a permanent visa to live and work anywhere in Western Australia.

To be eligible, you must:

• be under 45
• have a positive skills assessment in your nominated occupation
• score at least 65 points (click here to calculate your points)
• have the required English proficiency
• have an occupation listed in the current occupation list
• lodge an expression of interest for the WA government to nominate you.

Subclass 190 WA nomination streams

You can apply for Subclass 190 WA nomination under the general stream and/or the graduate stream.

Under the general stream:

• you must proficient English (for e.g. at least 7 in each of the 4 bands in IELTS test) if your nominated occupation is in Group 1 or Group 2 otherwise you only need competent English (for e.g. at least 6 in each of the 4 bands in IELTS test). You are exempted if you are holding a passport issued by the UK or Canada or NZ or the USA or Ireland
• able to claim 5 points for work experience gained after you received your qualification, in paid employment where you have worked for at least 20 hours per week
• you must have a full-time job offer (can be 2 jobs) in your nominated occupation for at least 1 year working for at least 35 hours per week paying an appropriate salary (based on market salary rates); cannot be independent contractor or self-employed unless the applicant is not the independent contractor
• if nominating occupations designated for “regional WA only”, the locations must be 6041 to 6044, 6084, 6207, 6213, 6215 to 6537, and 6560 to 6770.
• You must have at least $20,000 for single or $30,000 for a couple and $5,000 for each dependant for resettlement.

Under the graduate stream:

• you must proficient English (for e.g. at least 7 in each of the 4 bands in IELTS test) if your nominated occupation is in Group 1 or Group 2 otherwise you only need competent English (for e.g. at least 6 in each of the 4 bands in IELTS test). You are exempted if you are holding a passport issued by the UK or Canada or NZ or the USA or Ireland
• obtained a university or higher education (HE) qualification (including Bachelor or Master or PhD or Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma) in WA; or
• obtained a vocational education and training (VET) qualification at a Certificate III level or above
• completed at least 2 years full-time face-to-face studies in WA; can be from different qualifications (HE or VET and/or English language programs)
• lived and studied in WA for at least 2 years
• your education provider(s) must be accredited (CRICOS)
• must have worked in WA for at least 6 months in your nominated or closely related occupation within the last 5 years; experience obtained after gaining your qualification; must be for at least 20 hours per week; and paid (professional year or work placement will not be considered)
• if nominating occupations designated for “regional WA only”, the locations must be 6041 to 6044, 6084, 6207, 6213, 6215 to 6537, and 6560 to 6770.
• must have at least 35 hours full-time job offer (at least 6 months) in your nominated or closely related occupation in WA; cannot be independent contractor or self-employed unless the applicant is not the independent contractor
• You must have at least $20,000 for single or $30,000 for a couple and $5,000 for each dependant for resettlement.

Subclass 190 WA nomination ranking

For the general stream, applicants will be ranked according to their points score and date of lodgement, for e.g. the highest points score and oldest lodgement date.

For the graduate stream, applicants with HE qualifications will be ranked highest from PhD to Masters; Bachelor (Honour) to Bachelor degree obtained in WA; the highest points score and oldest lodgement date. Applicants with VET qualifications will be ranked highest from Advanced Diploma to Diploma, Certificate IV to Certificate III obtained in WA; the highest points score and oldest lodgement date.

Subclass 190 WA nomination requirements

For the general stream:

• your nominated occupation must be in the WA Skilled Migration Occupation List or WASMOL
• must have at least 1 year Australian or 3 years overseas work experience in your nominated or closely related occupation
• must have a full-time job offer for at least 1 year in your nominated or closely related occupation
• if you are not currently living in WA, you will be required to show settlement funds

For the graduate stream:

• your nominated occupation must be in the Graduate Occupation List or GOL
• must have at least 6 months paid Australian work experience in your nominated or closely related occupation or you have at least 6 months full-time job offer in WA
• must have studied for at least 2 years at least Certificate III level and above
• if you are not currently living in WA, you will be required to show settlement funds
