190 visa SA Nomination | Hot tips on SA subclass 190 visa

190 visa SA nomination allows you to apply for a permanent visa to live, work or study in South Australia (‘SA’).

If you have relevant skilled working experience (worked in SA for the last 1 year) or recently completed your studies in SA you may seek SA government to apply for a 190 visa SA nomination (click here to learn about subclass 190 visa). To be eligible for 190 visa SA nomination you must satisfy Department of Immigration (Department of Home Affairs) and SA nomination requirements:

1. Commitment to SA – 190 visa SA nomination is granted because you have a genuine interest and commitment to live and work in SA on a long-term basis
   1. Provide reasons for wanting to migrate to SA
   1. Provide evidence of researching for job opportunities in SA
   1. If already in SA, provide evidence of SA residence or SA employment (working for at least 6 months on a minimum of 20 hours per week in a skilled occupation)
2. Age – you must be under 45 at the time of SA nomination
3. Occupation – your occupation must be listed in the SA Nominated Occupation List or Supplementary Occupation List (special conditions apply). Preference for assessing the Supplementary Skilled List (SSL) will be given to international graduates of SA who are:
   1. Scored high points, for e.g., 95 points (can access Supplementary Skilled List), have more than 8 years of working experience in your nominated occupation or closely related occupation and have Superior English, for e.g., IELTS at least 8.0 in each of the 4 bands; or
   1. High performing graduate (within the last 2 years completed a PhD or Masters by Research or at least 6.0 GPA in Masters by coursework (following completion of a Bachelor degree in SA) or First Class Honours (following completion of a Bachelor degree in SA) or at least 6.0 GPA in a Bachelor degree; or
   1. International Graduate of SA and currently working (minimum 40 hours per fortnight) for at least 6 months in a skilled occupation in SA; or
   1. International Graduate of SA who resided continuously in SA for at least 5 years and is working for the last 3 months in a skilled occupation is SA (minimum 40 hours per fortnight)
4. Skills assessment – your skills must be as assessed as positive from the relevant authority (General Skilled Migration skills assessment), skills assessment must be completed within the last 3 years or specified by assessing authority
5. Work experience – you must have at least 1 year of paid skilled work experience (at least 20 hours per week and need not be in your nominated occupation) in the last 3 years (or per occupation requirement). Research work undertaken as part of a PhD study is not accepted. If you have recently completed your studies in SA, you may be able to access a work experience waiver
6. English – you must have relevant English language proficiency (for e.g., IELTS – at least 6.0 in all bands as required for your nominated occupation. English language is exempted if you are a citizen of the US or UK or Ireland or Canada or NZ
7. Financial capacity – you must have sufficient funds ($20k to $25k for offshore applicant; $5k to $10k for onshore applicant; $5k for each dependant) to settle in SA
8. Points – you must score at least 65 points (click here to calculate your points)

Graduates of SA have access to a larger list of occupations for 190 visa SA nomination and can access waivers for work experience, English and financial capacity. However, your SA qualification (CRICOS registered for a minimum of 46 weeks and resided in SA for at least 1 year during study) must be in the same field as your nominated occupation. You must also continue to reside in SA and currently working (at least 40 hours per fortnight) for the last 3 months in a skilled occupation post-graduation (unless waived).

SA VET graduates (e.g. Diploma or Certificate) who are currently residing in SA and meet the general work experience or is currently employed for the last 3 months in a skilled occupation or offshore applicants who have previous completed at least a Bachelor degree in SA and have met the general work experience requirement may be able to access the Supplementary Skilled List and Special Conditions Occupations.

If you have an immediate family member permanently residing in SA (chain migration), you may be able to access a broader list of occupations (e.g., accessing “Special condition apply” on the State Occupation List (SASOL) or the Supplementary Skilled List (SSL). However:

• you can only apply for subclass 491 visa (click here to learn more)
• you must have at least 75 points (including state nomination points) or as defined by your nominated occupation
• your immediate Australian citizen or PR family member who are over 18 and residing in SA for not less than 24 months  must be your grandfather or grandmother or father or mother or sibling (including step or adoptive)
• you must also be residing in SA
