PMSOL Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List, on 02 September 2020 the Australian government released a new priority skills list to allow a number of sponsored skilled workers to return to Australia to help fill urgent skills needs in the critical sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The PMSOL or skilled workers in the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List will be given priority in their visa application and will be allowed to enter Australia during the COVID-19 travel restrictions. These workers, who have been sponsored by an Australian business in a PMSOL or the Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List will be granted an exemption to enter Australia. They will still be required to be quarantined on arrival for 14 days at their own expense. You should note that it is not necessary to hold a current visa to lodge a travel exemption request.

There are currently 17 Priority Migration Skilled Occupation in the PMSOL:
- Chief Executive or Managing Director
- Construction Project Manager
- Mechanical Engineer
- General Practitioner
- Resident Medical Officer
- Psychiatrist
- Medical Practitioner nec
- Midwife
- Registered Nurse (Aged Care)
- Registered Nurse (Critical Care and Emergency)
- Registered Nurse (Medical)
- Registered Nurse (Mental Health)
- Registered Nurse (Perioperative)
- Registered Nurse nec
- Developer Programmer
- Software Engineer
- Maintenance Planner
- Social Worker
How to apply for jobs in the PMSOL?
If your occupation is one of the above 17 occupations, you will need to be sponsored by an Australian business or entity.
If you are sponsored for 1 of the PMSOL occupation, you can apply for a Subclass 482 visa (click here to learn more) or Subclass 494 visa (click here to learn more) or Subclass 186 (click here to learn more) or Subclass 187 (click here to learn more).
Your sponsor will be expected to conduct an enhanced labour market testing or LMT. In addition to the 2 usual job advertisements, your sponsor will also be required to advertise the position in the government’s Jobactive website (effective 1 October 2020). This is to make sure appropriately skilled Australian citizens and PRs are given work opportunities first when your sponsor nominates a vacancy. What this mean is, you cannot apply for the visa unless your occupation is tested in the labour market and no suitable Australian citizens or PRs are found.
